Description

The Faculty of Science supports a wide variety of global and international experiences for science students through its Global Engagement Funding Award (GEFA) program. York Science students who want to study or participate in academic international activities abroad as part of their degree but need financial assistance can apply for the GEFA. When they return, students may be asked to share their experiences with their peers by attending a study abroad session or event.

Categories for award funding include:

- Summer study abroad programs (more than 3.0 FCE): Up to $1000, depending on program type, duration, destination, and availability of funds. The amount of funding awarded depends on the particular details of the study abroad program.
- Short-term study abroad programs (less than 3.0 FCE): Up to $600, depending on program type, duration, destination, and availability of funds.
- Experiential field trip abroad in a science course: Up to $600, depending on program type, duration, destination and availability of funds.
- International conference presentation: Up to $600 depending on program type, duration, destination, and availability of funds.
- York International Academic Exchange: Depending on the availability of funds, students will be funded at the maximum of $1,600.
- International/global internship programs: Up to $1,000, depending on program type, duration, destination, and availability of funds.

Eligibility

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: York Science degree-seeking undergraduate student (domestic or international) Students whose home Faculty is the Faculty of Science. Students must have a minimum GPA of 6.00 (B). Graduate students should contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies for information on funding opportunities. DEADLINE: Anytime. Students should apply at least four (4) weeks prior to their official date of departure or start date of the activity. Please note that awards are intended to provide support to eligible undergraduate students for their upcoming global and community engagement study. Retroactive applications will not be considered.

FREQUENCY OF REQUEST: Students are eligible for one (1) award within the academic year. A maximum of two (2) awards in duration of their studies, where one is associated with a student exchange program. Applicants must also be approved for one of the following study abroad options: Enrolled in Faculty of Science - International Bachelor of Science (IBSC) degree program; York International Academic Exchange (one or two terms) with York Science International Partner institutions; Summer Abroad course offer by York Science international partners; Short-term Study Abroad Program (less than 3.0 FCE) offer by York Science international partners; Students are eligible to receive one award within an academic year and a maximum of two awards in the duration of their studies (as long as one is associated with a student exchange program).
